Fireplace, drains, concrete floors and not-quite-painting

The fireplace is out! Lots of noise today...

Drains

  • The drains appear to run out the back of the house which is not what we had expected.
  • We're still not really supposed to make too much noise (no llicencia yet) but John did a bit of exploration today and the drain from the understairs toilet seems to go under the living room floor.

There is some stone wall behind the concrete in the corner of the main room. I was beginning to wonder if there was another random hole but some intense angle grinding and drilling has established that it's going to take a while to get the tiles off (which is why we think the cement is there) but there is a stone wall behind them.

ar-gam (concrete floor)

  • guy - Bucra? - came round and seemed quite unfazed by it all.
  • There will probably be two expansion gaps, splitting the floor into 3 sections.
  • He's going to quote for both smooth polished concrete, or flecked with stones (as per the wahaca sink Sash and I saw)
  • Can do polishing when we're not available.
  • Will need two weeks notice to book in (guess it's not a big job for them!)
  • Doorway will need to be shuttered (and doors will need to be off)
  • 6m3 (60m2 at 10cm depth) only requires one truck delivery of concrete.

Paint spray gun didn't work as well as expected so room didn't get completely painted.
